A Classic Aviemore Classic 2006

Each year the Timaru Yacht Club hosts the Aviemore Classic, on Lake Aviemore, part of the Waitaki river hydro-electric power system. One of the great things about the Aviemore Classic is that it attracts 60 to 80 trailer yachts from most parts of the South Island, with the occasional North Island yacht thrown in.

This year started like most Labour weekends down at the Otematata boat harbour with the gathering of yachties from around the South Island. For most this is the first time they have used their boat since winter.

The 2002 NZ Champs will be remembered for several things, the number of competitors, the consistency of the top performers and most definitely the weather. Yes that is fresh snow on the hills in the photos.

This year the Farrs had again an excellent turnout with four Farr 7500s, one Farr 740 sport and twelve Farr 6000s.

Once more, Labour weekend at Lake Aviemore showed why this regatta has earned the reputation of being the premier trailer yacht event in the South Island.
